James Aoina

Orthopaedic Surgeon

James is the newest member of the Orthopacifix team. He is a foot and ankle, paediatric, and general orthopaedic surgeon at Bay of Plenty District Health Board and Grace private hospital.

James graduated with a Masters degree in Science and then went on to complete his medical degree at the University of Auckland in 2007. He became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015, followed by a Foot and Ankle fellowship in Sydney, Australia and a Paediatric orthopaedic fellowship in Dublin, Ireland.

James is a New Zealand born Samoan (Villages of Toamua and Eva) and is married to Jessica (Ngati Ranginui iwi, Ngai tamarawaho hapu) and they have three beautiful boys, Josiah, Jacob and Elijah. He is committed to improving health locally and in the wider Pacific region, having worked in Samoa after the Tsunami in 2009 and as a visiting surgeon to the Cook Islands in 2013.
