Several Orthopacifix surgeons joined with Australian, Swiss and Solomon Island colleagues to teach and mentor on this Introductory Orthopaedics Module held in Madang on the north coast of PNG in February 2019. Vaughan Poutawera, David Bartle and Roy Craig from New Zealand, joined programme director Des Soares and his fellow Aussies Ian Incoll, Matt Sharland, Paul Hitchen, Sara Coll, Stephen Quain, John Stephens, Graham Gumley and Keat Choong, from Switzerland Bruno Fries, and from the Solomon Islands Stephen Kodovaru. There were 14 young island surgeons taking part in the Introductory Module including the first female trainee of the Pacific Island Orthopaedic Association Dr Viola Kokiva from PNG. The module included teaching ward rounds, clinical practice in the physiotherapy department, lectures and practical skills stations at the Madang Lodge. The Madang Lodge provided popular lodgings with daily swimming and high bombs off the sea wall. All in all a successful and enjoyable PIOA teaching module.
