Papua New Guinea Visit 2019

Orthopaedic surgeons James Aoina, Sotiata Leilua and Hamish Leslie, along with Stryker Orthopacifix travelling award recipient Tim Chuang travelled to Kundiawa, Papua New Guinea in August 2019. Providing teaching for the foot and ankle module of the PIOA training programme, as well as occasional clinical work, the experience was an eye opening one. The people of PNG were very hospitable, and it was amazing to see their resilience amongst such limitation of health resources. The ability of local surgeons to manage conditions not seen in NZ was impressive. Opportunities to explore the highlands of PNG was a highlight.
